Stapledon, George (1882-1960)

British agricultural expert. He deeply influenced British agriculture by breeding improved strains of grasses and encouraging the use of leys or sown pastures. Stapledon was educated at Westward Ho and Emmanuel College, Cambridge University. He was professor of Agriculture at Aberystwyth University from 1919, and director of the grassland improvement station in Stratford, England, from 1948.
