Stapp, Olivia (1940– )

US mezzo-soprano. She studied in Italy and New York, and made her debut at Spoleto in 1960, in L'amico Fritz. She sang in Vienna, Berlin, and elsewhere in Europe. From 1972 she appeared with New York City Opera, notably as Norma and Carmen; from 1982 she sang Lady Macbeth and Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. She returned to Europe and sang Turandot and Mozart's Electra at La Scala, Milan (1983–84), Verdi's Hélène at Geneva (1985), and the title role in Katerina Ismailova at Hamburg (1990).
