Starkville

City in northeastern Mississippi, 39 km/24 mi west of Columbus; population (1990) 18,500. It is the trade centre for an area of dairy and cotton farms, and has various light manufactures.

Mississippi State University (1878), the largest of the state's campuses, is to the southeast.
