Staryk, Steven (1932– )

Canadian violinist and teacher. He studied at the Royal Conservatory, Toronto, and in 1956 became leader of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under Beecham. He led the Concertgebouw Orchestra (1960) and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1963–67). He was heard as a soloist, and taught at the Amsterdam Conservatory, in the USA, at Toronto, and at Ottawa. From 1987 he was head of the string division at the University of Washington, Seattle.
