México

State of central Mexico; area 21,461 sq km/ 8,286 sq mi; population (2000 est) 13,083,400. Its capital is Toluca de Lerdo. The state's population is the most numerous among the states of Mexico. It lies on the Central Plateau of Mexico and almost surrounds the Federal District, which contains most of Mexico City. Dairying and the cultivation of maize, coffee, and sugarcane are important agricultural activities, while industries include aluminium processing, iron and steel production, and motor vehicle assembly.
