Statkowski, Roman (1860-1925)

Polish composer. He studied with Wladyslaw Zeleński at Warsaw and with Nikolai Soloviev at St Petersburg. On the death of Noskowski in 1909, he was appointed professor of composition at the Warsaw Conservatory.

Opera

Philaenis (1904) and Maria (after Malczewski, 1906).

Orchestral and chamber

fantasy, polonaise, and other works for orchestra; five string quartets (1896-1929); violin and piano pieces; Krakowiak and other works for piano; songs.
