Steber, Eleanor (1916-1990)

US soprano. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1940 and stayed there until 1966, famed for her sensitive musicality. Thereafter she continued singing recitals and teaching.

She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was US-trained.
