Steffek, Hanny (1927- )

Polish-born Austrian soprano. She studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum and appeared in Die Zauberflöte/The Magic Flute at the 1950 Salzburg Festival. She sang with the Munich Staatsoper (1958-72), notably as Christine in Intermezzo, when the company visited the Edinburgh Festival in 1965. She made her London debut in 1959 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier/The Rose Cavalier, and appeared at the Vienna Staatsoper (1964-73). Other roles included Mozart's Ilia, Blondchen, and Papagena (Salzburg, 1950-55).
