Steiger, Rod(ney Stephen)

Steiger, Rod(ney Stephen) (1925-2002)

US character actor. He appeared in more than 100 films during his career, which spanned more than 50 years. His films includes On the Waterfront (1954), The Pawnbroker (1964), Doctor Zhivago (1965), and In the Heat of the Night (1967; Academy Award). He played the title role in W C Fields and Me (1976), and went on to take an increasing number of supporting roles in films such as The Hurricane (1999) and End of Days (1999).
