Steinberg, Leo

Steinberg, Leo (1920– )

Russian-born US art historian who emigrated to New York City. He taught at Hunter College 1961–75, and the University of Pennsylvania from 1975. A noted critic as well as scholar, he specialized in Renaissance, baroque, and contemporary art.

He was born in Moscow, Russia. He studied at the Slade School, London in 1940. He obtained a PhD in 1960 at New York University.
