Steiner, Max(imilian) Raoul Walter (1888-1971)

Austrian-born US film composer. With Erich Korngold (1897-1957), he brought the style of Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss to Hollywood movie scores. He pioneered the use of the click-track for feature films to guarantee absolute coordination of music and film action. His richly sentimental scores include King Kong (1934), Gone With the Wind (1939), and Casablanca (1942).
