Stenhammar, (Karl) Wilhelm (Eugen) (1871–1927)

Swedish composer, conductor, and pianist. He became conductor of the royal orchestra at Stockholm and also conductor at Göteborg.

He studied with his father, the composer Per Ulrik Stenhammar (1829–1875), and later with Emil Sjögren and others; he also studied in Berlin.

Works

Opera and choral

opera Tirfing (1898); incidental music to plays, including Strindberg's Ett römspel, Tagore's Chitra; cantata Sangen.

Orchestral and chamber

two symphonies (1903, 1915), serenade in F major for orchestra; two piano concertos (1893–1907); six string quartets (1894–1909); violin and piano sonata; four sonatas and fantasy for piano; part songs including Sverige; songs.
