Stenz, Marcus (1965- )| German conductor. He studied at the Cologne Conservatoire, where he was noticed by Hans Werner Henze; he conducted Henze's Elegy in Venice (1988), The English Cat in Berlin (1989) and the first performance of Das verratene Meer (1990). He was musical director of the Montepulciano Festival (1989-92), and director of the Bremen Opera from 1993. He conducted Le Nozze di Figaro/The Marriage of Figaro in Los Angeles (1993) and Don Giovanni for the English National Opera ensemble (1994). He was guest conductor with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. From 1993 he was principal of the London Sinfonietta, which he led at the 1993 London Promenade Concerts, in music by Ives, Kurtág, and Xenakis; music by Schnittke and Henze's Requiem for chamber orchestra also feature in his programmes. |
