Hendry, Stephen (1969– )

Scottish snooker player. In 1990 he became the youngest ever world champion at the age of 21 years 106 days. He won the title five years in succession, an unprecedented achievement in modern snooker. The world number one from 1990 to 1998, he has won more ranking tournaments than any other player.

Hendry was the youngest winner of a professional tournament when he claimed the 1986 Scottish professional title. He won his first ranking event in the 1987 Grand Prix. In 1999 he won the Scottish Open at Aberdeen to become the first player to win 30 ranking tournaments. He was awarded an MBE in 1994.
