Stephenville

Town in southwestern Newfoundland, Canada, on the north shore of St George's Bay, 64 km/40 mi southwest of Corner Brook; population (1991) 7,600. It produces newsprint. An annual drama festival draws visitors.

Settled in the 1840s as a fishing and farming community, it was the site (1941-66) of Harmon Air Force Base, a US facility and major employer.
