Homburg

Spa town and commercial centre in Saarland, southwest Germany, at the foot of the Taunus Mountains, 35 km/22 mi northeast of Saarbrücken; population (1995) 45,700. Industries include engineering, telecommunications, and the manufacture of tyres and ceramics. It gave its name to a soft felt hat, made fashionable by Edward VII of Great Britain and Ireland.

Hot chalybeate salaine springs in the Kurpark are used to treat gastric, intestinal, and metabolic disorders. In addition to the spa, visitor facilities also include a casino, congress, and conference centre. The castle (17th-19th century) is dominated by a 13th-century White Tower.

Homburg is the seat of the medical faculty of the University of Saarland.

Like the fedora, it has a high crown with a crease in the middle. A dark band of fabric is sewn around the base of the crown. The homburg was made fashionable by Edward VII of England.
