Steuben County

County in southwestern New York State, in the southwestern section of the Finger Lakes, along the Pennsylvania border; area 3,616 sq km/1,396 sq mi; population (1990) 99,100. Its capital is Bath. There is varied agriculture and dairy farming is important, but the county is best known for its grape growing and wineries. Glass and other products are manufactured at Corning, the largest city.

There are large tracts of state forest. The Keuka Lake region in the northeast corner, which includes the winemaking village of Hammondsport, is a popular resort area.
