Stevenson, Ronald (1928– )

English composer, pianist, and writer on music. He has made a special study of Busoni: his first piano concerto, Triptych (1960), is based on themes from Busoni's Doktor Faust.

He studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and in Italy, and has taught at Edinburgh University.

Works for piano

Passacaglia on DSCH, an 80-minute work for piano (first performance Cape Town, 1963), and Peter Grimes Fantasia for piano (1971); piano concerto no. 2 (The Continents, 1972).

Orchestral

Ben Dorain, choral symphony (1973), violin concerto (The Gypsy, 1973).

Chamber

Corroboree for Grainger for piano and wind ensemble (1987), St Mary's May Songs for soprano and strings (1988).
