Stewart, Dugald (1753-1828)

British philosopher. He was one of the Scottish common sense school, and his work mainly follows that of Thomas Reid. Stewart was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was educated at Edinburgh High School and Edinburgh University. In 1785 he was appointed professor of moral philosophy at Edinburgh University. His works include Elements of the Philosophy of the Human Mind (1792), Outlines of Moral Philosophy (1794), and The Philosophy of the Active and Moral Powers (1828).
