Steyn, Marthinus Theunis (1857–1916)

South African statesman. He was a lawyer and a judge in Free State, and became state president in 1896. He led guerrilla forces in the South African War, but later supported the British government. Steyn was born in Free State, South Africa. He was educated in Holland and England, and was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in London, England, in 1882.
