Stilicho, Flavius (AD 365–408)

Roman general of Vandal origin, who campaigned successfully against the Visigoths and Ostrogoths. He virtually ruled the western empire as guardian of Honorius (son of Theodosius I) from 395, but was later executed on Honorius' orders.
