Stobaeus, Johann (1580–1646)

German composer and bass. While attending the university at Königsberg, he studied music with Johann Eccard, and, after holding, various minor appointments there, became kapellmeister to the elector of Brandenburg in 1626.

Sacred and secular music

Cantiones sacrae for five to ten voices (published 1624), Magnificats for five to six voices, five-part settings of hymn tunes; Prussian Festival Songs for five to eight voices (with Eccard; two volumes, published 1624 and 1644); sacred and secular occasional compositions.
