Stojowski, Zygmunt (Denis Antoni) (1869–1946)

Polish composer and pianist. He studied with Zeleński at Kraków, then with Diémer, Dubois, Delibes, and Massenet in Paris, and finally, on his return, with Gorski and Paderewski. After touring Europe as a pianist he settled in New York in 1905. He became head of the piano department at the Institute of Musical Art, in 1911.

Works

A Prayer for Poland for chorus, organ, and orchestra (1915), cantata; symphony in D minor; two piano concertos, Symphonic Rhapsody for piano and orchestra, Concerto and Romanza for violin and orchestra, cello concerto; chamber music; instrumental sonatas; piano pieces; songs.
