Stokes, Adrian (Durham) (1902-1972)

English art critic, painter, and poet. Developing an approach to art based on the theories of the psychotherapist Melanie Klein, he wrote on a wide range of subjects, but is perhaps best known for his studies of 15th-century Italian sculpture and architecture. His books include The Quattro Cento (1932) and The Stones of Rimini (1934).
