Stolz, Robert (Elisabeth) (1880-1975)

Austrian composer and conductor. He wrote about 60 operettas and musicals, the first of which was Die lustigen Weiber von Wien, produced in Munich in 1909. He worked in Berlin in the 1920s, writing for early film musicals, and moved to Hollywood in 1940. After returning to Vienna in 1946, he wrote music for ice revues.

His early career was as a pianist; he was conductor at the Theater an der Wien from 1907. He later conducted while in his 90s.

Operettas and musicals

about 60, including Der Favorit (1916), Der Tans ins Glück (1921), Mädi (1923), Wenn die kleinen Veilchen blühen (1932), Venus in Seide (1932), Der verlorene Walzer (1933), Frühling in Prater (1949), Trauminsel (1962).

Other

about 100 film scores; many individual songs, waltzes, and a funeral march for Hitler, written in anticipation of his death.
