Stone, Barton Warren (1772-1844)

US religious leader and evangelist. He held several Presbyterian pastorates before breaking with that denomination to establish several independent churches in Kentucky and Ohio. His ‘Christian’ churches eventually merged with the Disciples of Christ. In 1826 he founded the periodical Christian Messenger, and varied his editorial duties with evangelical activities in Illinois and Missouri.

He was born in Port Tobacco, Maryland. He studied law, then underwent a religious conversion and became an evangelist.
