Storer, Francis Humphreys

Storer, Francis Humphreys (1832–1914)

US chemist. Storer did important research on soils, fertilizers, forage crops, and a variety of agricultural and horticultural products. His brother-in-law, Charles William Eliot, president of Harvard, appointed him to Harvard's Bussey Institution, an agricultural school, 1869–1907.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. After leaving Harvard, he served as a chemist with the US North Pacific expedition 1853–54; he then worked with the Boston Gas Light Company 1858–71, and was affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1865–71.
