Sturm und Drang

German early Romantic genres in literature and music, from about 1775, concerned with the depiction of extravagant passions. Writers associated with the movement include Johann Gottfried von Herder, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and Friedrich von Schiller. The name is taken from a play by Friedrich von Klinger in 1776.
