| The Greek and Latin historians do not speak favourably of it, and Strabo says it is very dangerous during the Etesian winds and in the rainy season. Stephen of Byzantium mentions eight, and Strabo thirteeen, (engulphed) - but the last is out of all reason. It was famous in remote times for its copper mines, which, however, were worked out when Strabo wrote. |
