Streator

City in central Illinois, on the Vermilion River, 26 km/16 mi south of Ottawa; population (1990) 14,100. Local industries produce building materials and canned goods, and there are railway workshops.

Settled as Hardscrabble, the community was renamed Unionville after the Civil War. Streator grew as a junction on the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad.
