Streisand, Barbra (Joan) (1942– )US singer, actor, director, and producer. She became established as a film star with her performance in Funny Girl (1968, for which she won an Academy Award). Her subsequent films include Hello Dolly (1969), What's Up Doc? (1972), The Way We Were (1973), and A Star Is Born (1979). She directed, produced, and starred in Yentl (1983) and Prince of Tides (1991). She first played Funny Girl on the stage 1964 in New York and 1966 in London, and had a hit with the songs from it, written by Bob Merrill (1921–1998) and Jule Styne, especially ‘People’. She produced several albums during the 1960s and 70s, many of them also compilations of hits from her films and musicals. How to thank TFD for its existence?
