Strong, G Templeton

Strong, G(eorge) Templeton (1856–1948)

US composer. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory, became a member of the Liszt circle, and was in close touch with Edward Alexander MacDowell while living at Wiesbaden 1886–89. After teaching in Boston in 1891–92, he settled in Switzerland on Lake Geneva, living first at Vevey and later in Geneva.

Works

Choral with orchestra

Knights and Dryads for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra; two cantatas for solo voices, male chorus and orchestra.

Orchestral

three symphonies: Sintram (after Fouqué, 1888), In the Mountains (1886), and By the Sea; symphonic poem Undine (after Fouqué); two American Skhes for violin and orchestra.

Chamber

A Village Music-Director trio for two violins and viola, and other chamber music.
