Strunz, Jacob

Strunz, Jacob (1783–1852)

German composer. He was a pupil of Winter at Munich. Between 1798 and 1845 he travelled all over Europe, and also visited Egypt. He then settled at Munich for the rest of his life. He was a friend of Meyerbeer, Berlioz, and Balzac, who dedicated his story Massimilla Doni to him.

Works

operas Le Maître de chapelle and Les Courses de Newmarket; several ballets; incidental music (the first) for Hugo's Ruy Blas; three string quartets; songs.
