Stuart, Lady Arabella

Stuart, Lady Arabella (1575–1615)

Claimant to the English throne. She was the cousin of James I and next in succession to him to both Scottish and English thrones after Elizabeth I. She was the focus of the main plot to eliminate James, and was imprisoned 1609 when James became suspicious. On her release 1610 she secretly married William Seymour, another claimant to the throne, and they were both imprisoned. She died insane in the Tower of London.
