Sture, Sten

    0.06 sec.

Sture, Sten (1440–1503)

Regent of Sweden. He raised levies from the peasants and twice defeated Christian I of Denmark, the second time at the battle of Brunkeberg (1471). He was finally obliged to acknowledge the suzerainty of John II, king of Denmark and Norway in 1483.

Sture, Sten (1492–1520)

Regent of Sweden. His brief but stormy rule was occupied with the humiliation of his rival, Archbishop Trolle, whom he immured in a monastery after capturing his stronghold of Stäkket in 1516. He fought two battles against Christian II of Denmark; at Brännkurka in 1518 he was victorious, but during the second, fought near Bogesund, he was killed.
