Sturgeon Bay

Sturgeon Bay

City and administrative headquarters of Door County, southwestern Wisconsin, on the Door Peninsula, 61 km/38 mi northeast of the city of Green Bay; population (1990) 9,200. The city has a flourishing tourist industry. It is a cherry growing centre, with fruit packing plants; it also has shipyards and processes dairy products.

It is situated at the head of Sturgeon Bay (an inlet of Green Bay) and the Sturgeon Ship Canal, which connects Green Bay with Lake Michigan. Potawotomi State Park is to the west, and there are limestone quarries nearby.
