Suakin

Town and seaport in Red Sea State, Sudan, situated partly on an island in the Red Sea near the coast, to which it is connected by a causeway. As a port it has been superseded by Port Sudan, and is now used for coastal trade only. It has railway communication with Berber, Port Sudan, and Atbara. Oil is extracted in the Suakin Basin, 40 km/25 mi offshore.
