subconscious

State of being partially conscious. The mind can perceive impressions or events that may be forgotten at the time but can continue to influence the conscious mind or may enter the conscious mind a long time after the event has taken place.

Psychoanalysis places much importance on the influence of painful and unpleasant experiences that, although forgotten, continue to have a detrimental influence on the mind.
