Suchet, David (1946– )

English actor. Following a successful career with the Royal Shakespeare Company 1973–79, he played leading television roles in Oppenheimer (1980), Blott on the Landscape (1985), Thirteen at Dinner (1985), and The Secret Agent (1992), but starred most memorably as the Belgian detective Hercules Poirot in Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989–97).

His films include The Falcon and the Snowman (1984), Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), Harry and the Hendersons (1987), and A World Apart (1988).

Suchet was born in London, and trained at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, he played the Fool in Lear (UK 1974, US 1975), Shylock in The Merchant of Venice (1978), and Angelo in Measure for Measure (1979), and other roles.
