Suchon, Eugen

Suchoň, Eugen (1908–1993)

Slovakian composer. His earlier music reflects the style of the Czechoslovakian nationalist composers, while his later works were influenced by serialism.

He studied at Bratislava Conservatory 1927–31, and then in Prague with Vitězslav Novák 1931–33. He taught at the Bratislava Academy of Music 1933–41 and was professor at the State Conservatory 1941–47. From 1947 to 1953 he was professor at the Slovak University and from 1953 at the Pedagogic High School in Bratislava.

The Whirlpool (1949) and Svätopluk (1960).

Other

serenades for strings, for wind quintet (1932–33); choral music; piano quartet, piano pieces.
