Suitland-Silver Hill

Suburb in central Maryland, just east of Washington DC; population (1990) 35,100. It is composed of residential neighbourhoods bisected by the Suitland Federal Center, which houses the Bureau of the Census, military, oceanography, hydrography, and map services, and the National Weather Service.

The Smithsonian Institution maintains warehouses in Suitland, which developed after World War II.
