Sukhomlinov, Vladimir Aleksandrovich

    0.01 sec.

Sukhomlinov, Vladimir Aleksandrovich (1848–1926)

Russian soldier. He first came to prominence during the Russo-Japanese war 1904–05, after which he reorganized the Russian Army and became minister for war 1909–15.

He was responsible for the mobilization plans of 1914 which put the Russian Army into the field much faster than the Germans expected, but early Russian defeats were blamed upon his failure to stockpile sufficient munitions and equipment, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment for accepting bribes from army contractors. He was released 1918 and went into exile in Finland.
