Summers, Jonathan (1946– )

Australian baritone. He studied with Otakar Kraus in London (1974–80) and made his debut with Kent Opera in 1975, as Rigoletto. He appeared as Falstaff with Glyndebourne Touring Opera, in 1976. From 1976 he sang in London at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Papageno, Malatesta, Balstrode, Mozart's Figaro, and Ford in Falstaff. With Scottish Opera he sang Mozart's Count and Don Giovanni; he was Nabucco and Onegin with Opera North. He sang Germont with Australian Opera in 1981, and made his New York debut in 1988 at the Metropolitan Opera House, as Marcello. In 1990 he appeared at Chicago, as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor. He sang Verdi's Rodrigo and Don Carlo (Forza) for the English National Opera ensemble (1992). He was also in demand at La Scala, Milan, the Paris Opéra, and in Florence and Geneva.
