Summit County

County in northeastern Ohio; area 1,067 sq km/412 sq mi; population (1990) 515,000. Its capital is Akron, whose metropolitan area and economy dominate the county. Agriculture includes clover, corn, dairy, livestock, and poultry farming. There is manufacturing at Akron, Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, and other cities. Limestone, sandstone, sand, gravel, salt, and clay are natural resources.

The county is bordered to the northwest by the Cuyahoga River, by which, along with the Tuscarawas River, it is intersected. It contains a number of lakes, including the Portage Lakes.
