Sumner, James (Batcheller) (1887-1955)US biochemist. Sumner shared the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1946 with John Northrop and Wendell Stanley for his work in 1926 when he succeeded in crystallizing the enzyme urease and demonstrating its protein nature.
