The Bengal tiger is a subspecies of tiger found in India. The tiger is classified as an endangered species: in 1996 there were only 4,000 Bengal tigers left in the world.

Low-lying mangrove swamp and jungle area in the Ganges delta and estuary, covering 2,500 sq km/965 sq mi, and stretching westwards from Bangladesh into West Bengal state, India. The largest estuarine forest in the world, much of the area is a nature reserve, preserving the habitat of the Bengal tiger. The local economy depends on fishing, forestry and government-sponsored prawn fisheries.
