Sunnyside

Residential section in west Queens, Long Island, New York. Part of Long Island City, it became the site, in 1924–28, of Sunnyside Gardens, an influential housing development. Located just north of Newtown Creek, between Hunters Point and Woodside, Sunnyside is surrounded by cemeteries and Long Island railway yards.

Sunnyside

City in south-central Washington, 48 km/30 mi southeast of Yakima; population (1990) 11,200. It is an agricultural and commercial centre, trading and transporting asparagus, tomatoes, grapes, wine, fruit, and cheese and other dairy products. Other industries include poultry and vegetable packing and sugar beet warehousing.

Settled by the Christian Cooperative Colony in 1898, it developed as a livestock centre after the railway arrived in 1906. The Sunnyside irrigation project was one of the first in the state. The Yakama Indian Reservation is to the southwest.
