Sutherland, Kiefer (1966– )| US actor. He developed his career on television and in film from the mid 1980s, known for his versatility and intensity, but often in supporting roles. He achieved leading-man status at the beginning of the 21st century with the successful television mini-series 24 and films such as the thrillers Phone Booth (2003) and Taking Lives (2004). He is the son of US actor Donald Sutherland. |
| He received critical acclaim for the coming-of-age films The Bay Boy (1984), Stand By Me (1986), and The Lost Boys (1987). Other films include the medical school thriller Flatliners (1990), the military courtroom drama A Few Good Men (1992), and the science-fiction mystery Dark City (1997). After his role in 24, a real-time action series he also co-produced, he achieved a wider variety of leading roles, such as French artist Paul Gauguin in the biopic Paradise Found (2003). |
| He was born in London, England, but grew up Toronto, Canada, after moving there with his mother in 1971. His first feature film appearance was in a scene alongside his father in Max Dugan Returns (1983). He has also directed films, including the made-for-television features Truth or Consequences, N M (1997) and Woman Wanted (2000). |
