Sutton Bridge

Sutton Bridge

River port in Lincolnshire, England, on the River Nene near the Wash, 11 km/7 mi north of Wisbech; population (2001) 3,950. It is in a potato-growing district, and trades in corn and timber. Ruins of the old dock are still visible.

Nearby is the village of Long Sutton; the church there has a 13th-century tower with an early lead spire.

French utility giant EDF has agreed to sell its gas-fired power station at Sutton Bridge, in Cambridgeshire, and British Energy's coalfired station at Eggborough, in East Yorkshire, to meet a number of EU hurdles.
The company is seeking permission to build another new gas-fired plant, at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, which would be similar in size to the one given the green light by the government yesterday.
