Swakopmund

Formerly a port, now a seaside resort in Namibia, north of Walvis Bay, with a railway to Windhoek; population (1990) 15,500. The world's largest uranium mine is located nearby at Rössing. Until 1914 Swakopmund was the chief harbour of German Southwest Africa, but became sanded up.
